MILES MOSLEY

Miles Mosley is an upright bassist, vocalist, producer, composer & arranger, trained in classical and jazz. He was born and raised in Hollywood, and though the majority of his life was spent romping around the

streets of Los Angeles, he spent every summer of his childhood in Pell City, Alabama.

A little history: there’s his classical training at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, years of study with jazz bass legends John Clayton, Ray Brown, and Al McKibbon, and undergraduate work at UCLA. As a teen Mosley won countless awards, was selected to play bass for the 1996 Grammy All-American High School Jazz Band & Choir, and was acclaimed as a “Technical Virtuoso” by Los Angeles Times

jazz critic, Don Heckman. Since then he has greatly expanded his repertoire, mastering the bass and a vast array of instruments - deftly blending Jazz with Rock, Pop, Funk, and R&B. In March, 2009 he was a featured artist in Bass Player Magazine.

To describe his style on the upright bass, one can only draw comparisons outside the class of his instrument. Imagine if Jimi Hendrix played the upright bass in the 21st century? Mosley has single-handedly and successfully combined bow work, effects, and ‘in-your-face’ dexterity to give his instrument a

signature sound.

The last few years have been the busiest of Mosley’s career. He independently released two acclaimed CD’s, composed soundtracks for films, and appeared as a featured performer on numerous TV shows and music videos. He spent time in the studio recording/collaborating with artists including India Arie, Jason Mraz, Chris Cornell, and Avenged Sevenfold. He co-produced, composed, arranged and performed on actor Terrence Howard’s debut CD ‘Shine Through It’, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts, and #31 on Billboard 200. The release was followed by a U.S. tour. He also toured across the globe with many artists including Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, and Herbie Hancock, as well as making unforgettable appearances at the 2007 Grammy Awards telecast with the Gnarls Barkley orchestra, at the Greek Theater with Jeff Beck, and at The Playboy Jazz Festival.

Mosley recently wrapped up a European tour with singer Jonathan Davis of influential Rock group Korn, where he pulled double duty as the opening performer and as Davis’ solo band bassist. He is co-writing and preparing to record Davis’ debut solo album in the Fall, 2011.

Currently, Mosley is recording his new CD, and is in residency twice weekly at The Piano Bar in Hollywood. Backed by a stellar band, club promoters and venues including Bar Sinister, The Edison, The Key Club,

The Supper Club and The Mint continue to book his popular live performances to sold-out crowds.
